Power Supply Thermal Improvement with DC Axial Fan Cooling -- Power electronics cooling case study

The Challenge

The customer needed to cool high-temperature components without increasing enclosure size. Airflow had to pass through a dense internal layout, so pressure capability and noise behavior were both important.

  • Heat concentrated around switching components and heat sinks
  • Limited internal space for fan installation
  • Need to balance airflow, noise, and power consumption
  • Stable supply required for an OEM production schedule

The Solution

Herays reviewed the target voltage, airflow requirement, pressure path, and mechanical envelope. A DC axial fan option was selected for its balance of airflow and static pressure in the customer’s enclosure.

The customer tested samples under load and confirmed the fan could support the desired thermal margin.

Results

The revised cooling design improved heat-sink airflow and helped the power supply maintain stable operating temperature under load testing.
