Control Cabinet Cooling Upgrade for an Automation Equipment OEM -- Industrial automation cooling case study

The Challenge

The cabinet layout left limited space for airflow, while continuous equipment operation created heat around control modules and power components. The customer needed a fan solution that could fit the available panel space, run reliably for long shifts, and maintain stable airflow without excessive noise.

  • Dense electrical components inside a compact enclosure
  • Long operating hours in factory environments
  • Need for 24V DC compatibility and stable batch supply
  • Requirement for custom wire length and connector support

The Solution

Herays recommended a 24V DC axial fan configuration matched to the cabinet airflow path and expected system resistance. The fan was specified with suitable airflow, static pressure, wire length, and connector requirements for the customer’s assembly process.

Sample units were provided for thermal verification before batch production. After validation, the customer standardized the fan across multiple cabinet models.

Results

The upgraded airflow helped reduce localized heat accumulation and improved temperature consistency across the cabinet. The customer also simplified assembly by using a matched wire and connector configuration.
